GCB treasurer to resign over death threats

TREASURER of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and president of the Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) Sheik Asif Ahmad has told Chronicle Sport he will be tendering his resignation from the post of Treasurer of the GCB, due to death threats made on his life.
According to Ahmad, he has received word of the threats from a creditable source, to which he made a report to the Wakenaam Police Station approximately two weeks ago.

“According to the source, who is a credible one too, plans are being made to terminate my life at either one of the two matches between Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago which is set for the Guyana National Stadium this weekend.
“At the moment, I am living in fear over losing my own life and without hesitation, will be vacating the office of treasurer within the GCB as soon as the independent audit is completed and its report made official,” said Ahmad.
He further told Chronicle Sport that the report would surely clear his name of any wrongdoing with the funds of the GCB and as soon as that is completed, he will tender his resignation with immediate effect.
“I am forced to make this decision by persons who are not interested in the development of Guyana’s cricket, but have their own personal goals and if my resignation is the way to go, then I am happy to do so (resign).
He thanked the GCB for utilising his services and skill as treasurer over the past year and a half and wishes them all the best as they seek to further develop Guyana’s cricket.
