Two computers stolen during burglary at GGDMA

THE headquarters of the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) was broken into and robbed of two computers over the weekend.
Reports said thieves disabled the electronic alarm system, cut the metal locks and broke into the headquarters of the GGDMA over the weekend, taking away only two of three computers.

It is unclear when the burglary occurred but police, around 13:30h, visited the crime scene and lifted finger-prints, as part of their efforts to identify the burglars through their database.

GGDMA President, Frederick Mc Wilfred said the association’s headquarters was last occupied by staff on Friday. He could not say when the burglary actually took place.

The two telephone cables were cut, preventing the electronic alarm from sending a message to Mekdeci Mining Company’s security service, giving the burglars a chance to cut the locks on the backdoor and enter the North Road premises undetected, reports said.

“There was some amount of expertise employed,” said Mc Wilfred.

He could not immediately say the extent to which the absence of the computers would affect the operations of the association. “It would affect some of our record-keeping,” he said.
One of the computers was used by the secretary to the Executive Secretary, Mr. Tony Shields and the other by a technical member of staff.
