ST JOHN’s, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB is saddened by the news of the passing of Naz Yacoob, an undisputed stalwart in the field of cricket journalism in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean. The WICB mourns his passing after a brief illness and sends deepest condolences to his wife Betty, three children Richard, Greg and Mellisa and relatives and friends and the entire media and cricketing fraternity in Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean.
Naz, as he was affably known, throughout the region was an unwavering servant of youth cricket and on an annual basis, for the majority of his career, travelled the length and breadth of the Caribbean to bring the reports and news of age group tournaments to the Trinidad and Tobago and Caribbean publics.
Such was Naz’s dedication to youth and local cricket in Trinidad and Tobago that he would forego covering international cricket to remain faithful to his love for covering youth cricket.
While it is sad that he fell ill during the recently concluded WICB TCL Under 19 Tournament in St Lucia and had to be rushed home, it is also a testament to his unyielding commitment to covering youth cricket, even at times when he was not in the best of health
. His passion for cricket in general but youth cricket in particular was both exemplary and heartwarming.
Naz will most certainly be missed and the cricketing and media fraternities will be poorer with his passing.
