Convict gets second prison sentence for burglary

RYAN Samaroo was yesterday sentenced to one more year imprisonment on conviction for break and enter and larceny, committed on Aaron Jewel Store, in Pope Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice. Magistrate Omeyena Hamilton convicted him, at a trial in New Amsterdam Court, of having, on February 29, 2008, in company with Lennox Williams and Delroy Joseph, robbed the business of gold jewellery valued $1.7M.
The charges against Williams and Joseph were dismissed.
The virtual complainant, Aaron Mohammed testified that, after receiving a telephone call, he went to his business place and observed that a burglary had taken place there.
He said he went to Central Police Station and returned to the scene with a rank, then opened the building and found that jewels were missing and Samaroo was hiding under a counter.
The witness said, when questioned, the burglar implicated the co-defendants.
Samaroo was already serving a three years sentence for a similar crime, Police Corporal Roberto Figueira, prosecuting, informed the Court.
