ACDA staging Emancipation candlelight parade on Essequibo Coast

COORDINATOR of African Cultural and Development Association (ACDA) in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mrs. Desiree Charles has announced that a candlelight parade, from Damon Cross to Damon Park, will kick off Emancipation Day celebrations tomorrow. She said the procession will begin at 20:00 h and proceed along the public road to Anna Regina Car Park, also on the Essequibo Coast, where the Damon Monument stands.
Participants will carry lighted torches and will be accompanied by African drumming, Charles said.
She said, at the car park, a grand cultural show will be staged, displaying African culture.
Several addresses will be delivered on the importance of emancipation and, at midnight, a libation ceremony will be conducted around the Damon Monument, Charles said.
She also informed that a grand cultural extravaganza is slated for Anna Regina Community Centre Ground on August 1, when African food, drinks and clothing will be on display
