Child labour awareness planned for Region 10

The Ministry of Labour is taking its campaign on child labour to Region 10 and has planned a public education awareness programme aimed at highlighting the issue and spreading the message about the consequences. The project, which is called “Tackling Child Labour through Education”, is a collaborative effort between the Government and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
The pilot public education programme was launched on June 7 and coincided with activities in observance of World Day against Child Labour.
According to the ministry, the aim of the campaign is to raise the level of awareness on the negative impact of truancy, school dropout and child labour.
It also seeks to emphasise the value of education/skills acquisition and staying in school on to completion.
Campaigns have already been conducted in Regions Two and Four and will continue in Region 10 from August 4-6.
