SUNIL Pollard, 28, was sentenced to six months imprisonment yesterday for escaping from lawful custody. Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson imposed the custodial penalty on him for the escape from Anna Regina Police Station, on July 22, while he was being detained in connection with a break and enter and larceny.
Pollard, of Richmond Housing Scheme, also on the Essequibo Coast, pleaded guilty and said he fled because he asked for a telephone call to his cancer sick wife and was refused.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said Pollard had been on remand in the burglary case because he would not afford $75,000 bail.
