SHERWIN Chichester, 22, of Lot 4 ‘B’ Shell Road, Kitty, Georgetown, was yesterday sentenced to two years imprisonment for larceny.
Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson imposed the custodial penalty on him for stealing a $100,000 gold chain from Nabellah Yusuf on July 9.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said the thief committed the offence while on $60,000 bail, pending trial on a similar charge.
Another gold chain thief, Orin Miggins, 21, of Ocean Garden, Met-en-Meerzorg, West Coast Demerara, suffered the same fate on conviction for robbery, also by Magistrate Robertson.
The prisoner also took two cell phones, in booty valued a total of $48,000, from Ryan Ragoo, on July 10.
The Prosecutor said the virtual complainant was at the Plaisance Bus Park in the city, when the convict approached him and asked to make a telephone call before robbing him.
Miggins was apprehended by two off duty soldiers who went to the rescue of the victim.
