Food for the Poor makes considerable donation to Mahdia fire victims

Food For The Poor (Guyana) Inc., with transportation assistance from the Ministry of Public Works and Communication, last Friday, made available $12M worth of items to victims of the massive Mahdia fire that left scores of residents homeless and desolate.
The fire, which on the evening of Thursday, July 1, accounted for the destruction of approximately 25 buildings / businesses, leaving about 150 residents homeless, left many people of the “Mining Town” in abject hopelessness. Immediately upon receiving a call concerning the disaster that had befallen Mahdia, Executive Director of Food For  The Poor (Guyana) Inc,
Mr. Leon Davis, mobilized a team of staffers to expeditiously conduct a needs assessment and they loaded two lorries full of relevant items. These were dispatched with the kind of urgency such misfortune would command. Following are details of the contribution the not-for-profit organisation made to the relief effort:

Food For The Poor (Guyana) Inc. is indisputably the largest non-governmental organisation operating in Guyana, with an unparalleled expenditure of resources toward charitable work and relief efforts such as this catastrophe would have necessitated. The organisation is willing to be of continued assistance, should the need arise.
“Minister Robeson Benn and the Ministry of Public Works and Communication deserve much commendation for the provision of transport, without which these items could not have reached the victims,” Mr. Davis says.
