Bravo set to appear for Pitbulls

DJ Stress T20 Festival …
… GCA to confirm participation

WITH talismanic West Indies and Jamaican opener Christopher Gayle along with Trinidad and Tobago ’s Lendl Simmons and Rayad Emrit making a guest appearance for Hotel Tower’s New Line Cavaliers, Windies energetic all-rounder Dwayne Bravo is set to make an appearance for the Gizmos and Gadgets-sponsored Georgetown Pitbulls.
All this will occur in the second annual DJ Stress 20/20 cricket festival that is set to take place at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, next Sunday from 10:00 h.
While Bravo has indicated his desire to represent the 2009 runners-up, the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), the governing body for cricket in the capital city, still has to decide on his participation, even though his expenses are being borne by the sponsors of the team and the organiser Paul Bonar aka DJ Stress.
In an invited comment with Chronicle Sport, Bonar said he would be delighted to have an exciting and energetic player such as Bravo in the lineup for the G&G Pitbulls, which can help add more variety to the local side.
Bravo is currently averaging 23.63 from 68 T20 matches, where he has accrued 1 087 runs with a highest score of 70 not out at a strike rate of 124.79 while representing Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies and Mumbai Indians in the shortest form of the game to date.
In the bowling department, he has taken 63 wickets at an average of 26.30 with his best returns being 4-23.
With players the calibre of Christopher Barnwell, Trevon Garraway, Trevon Griffith, Jamal Hinckson, Steven Jacobs, Leon Johnson and Ravi Sarwan expected to be in the Pitbulls lineup, Bravo’s inclusion can serve as an added boost to the team which lost to Hotel Tower’s New Line Cavaliers in the inaugural final at the same venue last year.
But his participation rests on the decision of the GCA, whose president is out of the country while acting president Neil Barry said he was not in a position to comment on both Bravo’s representing the GCA team, as well as the GCA’s position on the tournament. (Calvin Roberts)
