One of 2 judges at the June Sessions is going on leave!

Will another judge be assigned to take over?
ACCORDING to Acting Chief Justice, Mr. Ian Chang, S.C., the man responsible for assigning judges, his answer was a definite ‘No’.
When contacted in his Chambers yesterday, Chief Justice Chang made it clear to the questioner – “There is a shortage of judges …all the judges are assigned to their tasks,…I have no judge to assign to the sessions, except I make one out of clay.”

Justice Chang, recalling the days when he  – and Claudette Singh – were Justices of Appeal, they used to forego their leave to  assist the Criminal Court at the Demerara Assizes  so as to get rid of the backlog of cases.
Having heard this and being aware of the situation, this writer yesterday tried to get in touch with Chancellor Carl Singh with the hope that he might be able to introduce the Court of Appeal help-system, but was told that the Chancellor was out of the jurisdiction and would not be back before week-end.
It would be of great help if the Chancellor could assist with getting at least one of his judges to agree to help, since we have reached a stage where no more than six cases are being heard for an entire criminal session.
