The police yesterday said they are following several leads in the murder on Sunday night of businessman, Terry Singh, 36, of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, on Sunday night.
The police have made no arrest up to press time, and are urging persons who may have witnessed the shooting or may have information regarding the incident to come forward and volunteer information.
A police release said that about 21:15 hrs on Sunday night, after Bacchus was shot, public spirited persons took him out of his motor vehicle, which had crashed into the concrete base of a street light along Water Street, Georgetown, and took him to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A post mortem on Monday by Dr. Nehaul Singh gave the cause of death as perforation of the heart and lungs due to gunshot injuries.
Meanwhile, the man’s relatives believes that the businessman was murdered in what they described as an “execution style killing”. They said Bacchus had closed his Water Street business, Double Discount Store, for the day, and was at the time outside the business place when he was shot by a lone gunman.
It is alleged that Bacchus was being trailed by two men in a white car which was observed in the area prior to the shooting, Bacchus owns a chain of stores in the city, on the East and West Coast of Demerara, and was last seen alive by relatives after they closed up the business at Water Street Sunday evening.
