LONG-serving Honorary Consul for Guyana in Barbados, Mr. Norman Faria, died in Barbados yesterday after a brief period of illness, the Foreign Ministry here announced. The Guyana Government received the news with deep sadness.
Mr. Faria, a freelance journalist, served as Guyana’s Honorary Consul for 16 years “during which time he valiantly represented the interests of Guyanese resident in Barbados”, the ministry noted.
“The Government of Guyana wishes to take this opportunity to extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family members of Mr. Faria”, the ministry said.
Mr. Faria was also a contributor to the Guyana Chronicle, writing extensively for the newspaper on a wide range of topics – from book and film reviews to current issues, travel and covering breaking stories.
Since his appointment, he established a close rapport with several media houses here and never failed to drop in to see colleagues at the Guyana Chronicle on trips to Guyana.
He will be sorely missed by the journalistic fraternity here and in the Caribbean and the Guyana Chronicle joins in extending sincere condolences to his family and friends on his passing.
