Common Law husband freed of rape

VICTOR Ramsabad, who was behind bars for three years with a charge of rape hanging over his head for allegedly raping his 30 year old wife, was freed by the jury yesterday. The 32-year old husband, who would visit his estranged wife from time to time, was charged with rape on February 13, 2005, after the woman who admitted that she followed him to the bed that night reported to the police that he broke down her door, assaulted and raped her.
As a consequence, he was charged with rape, break and enter and common assault.
Ramsabad had pleaded not guilty and claimed  that  his former wife, who still loves him, had consented to all that happened that  night, but had made the allegation against him because another man was in her life.
Ramsabad even said that the woman who calls him “Babes”  would still visit his home after the allegation and would visit him in prison.
The woman  admitted  to defence counsel Mr. Peter Hugh ,”It is true that since I made the allegation against him,  that  I visited his home and pay visits to him in prison.”
She also admitted that on the same night of the alleged offence, she had entered her bedroom with him following her from behind.  She also admitted that after they had sex that night, she went down stairs and lay with him in a hammock.  She said that after he fell asleep  she phoned for the Police.
Justice Roxanne  George, who summed up the evidence in three  hours,  had
mentioned  that certain aspects of the case reminded her of the film “ Fatal Attraction”.
Yesterday, after the mixed jury had found the accused not guilty on all the counts,  the accused cried; and when he was finally discharged by the judge, he ran from the court room into South Road, where he joined a car.
