Following policeman injury…
THE company, Japarts, conducting business in Croal Street, yesterday donated 130 luminous vests, 10 spot lamps and $100,000 to the Guyana Police Force (GPF). The presentation took place in the Commissioner’s Conference Room, Eve Leary, also in Georgetown, where the total gifted amounted to $580,000.
Commissioner of Police Henry Greene, who accepted the gifts, expressed thanks to Japarts for the kind and needed donation.
Japarts Chief Executive Officer, Terry Singh, told those gathered that he was overseas when he learnt of an accident at a Police roadblock, where an out of control motor car struck a policeman, who is still hospitalised.
He said the driver of the vehicle claimed the victim was not visible in the dark and, as such, was not seen.
Consequently, Singh said he decided that he should present the Police with luminous vests to wear, especially when performing night duties on the roads.
He added that his company, which also operates a large scale mining operation in the interior, has developed a good working relationship with the Police and the gesture was his way of repaying them. (Michel Outridge)
