INDONESIANS are seeking to engage Guyanese businesses in several areas of trade, including sugar, machinery, tooling, footwear, building materials and consumer products.
This was disclosed at a meeting last Wednesday between the members of Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and a delegation headed by the Second Secretary in the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Suriname, Ms. Endah Yuliarti Farry.
The discourse, in the GCCI boardroom, Carmichael Street, Georgetown, was attended by its President, Mr. Komal Ramnauth; Chairman of its Trade and Investment Committee, Mr. Clinton Urling and other members, Ms. Shanti Persaud, Mr. Raj Singh and Mr. Rabindranauth Seenarine.

Farry also presented a package to Ramnauth, which included information on the Indonesian economy and listed exporters and guidelines for doing business in that country.
She said Indonesia is an emerging market economy and ranks among the largest economies in Southeast Asia.
With a population well in excess of 200 million, it is the fourth highest populated country in the world, below China, India and the United States.
She said Indonesia has numerous exporters and offers several trade and investment possibilities.
Niamatali disclosed that Guyana imports confectionery, soap, paper, glass and building materials from Indonesia but there are other prospects.
According to him, a significant volume of Guyana’s timber is currently sold in South East Asia and facilitates two-way shipping opportunities on a regular basis.
