Digicel, Guyana’s leading mobile communications operator in Guyana, has assisted the team of University of Guyana students attending the 28th session of the Model Organization of American States General Assembly being held in Peru.
The Model OAS General Assembly (MOAS) is a programme of the Department of International Affairs of the OAS, designed to promote democracy among the youth of the hemisphere by familiarizing students, faculty and academic institutions of the Americas with the work of the OAS and its Member States.
They also inform youths about the Organization’s role as the premier political forum in the hemisphere, by engaging students in an active learning exercise where, through role-playing, they represent the diplomats and political officials of the 34 Member States of the OAS.
Digicel Head of Marketing, Jacqueline James, says Digicel is pleased to provide the students with an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the region’s development.
President of the University of Guyana International Affairs Association, Jamal Goodluck, expressed gratitude to Digicel for assisting the team on their journey to Peru.
“The MOAS will help us to improve our networking, negotiating, research, debating, interpersonal and intellectual skills.”
The students, who left for Peru over the weekend, will represent Guyana at this MOAS from May 12 – 15. The MOAS is one of the events to be carried out before the 40th OAS General Assembly which takes place in Lima on June 6 – 8.
