THE second round of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) Inter-Secondary School impromptu speaking competition continues today.
The competition will see School of the Nations coming up against Mae’s Secondary School and St. John’s College competing against Richard Ishmael Secondary.
Round two of the competition began last Thursday at the GBTI Recreational centre where two groups of schools competed.
The matches featured St. Stanislaus College against President’s College and The Bishops’ High School against St. Joseph’s High School.
In the first match President’s College emerged the winners with 696 points while St. Stanislaus College scored 691 points.
The topics selected by the champion school were: ‘A period I would have loved to live through is…’; ‘On the path of life, luck is more important than competence’; and ‘How to prevent truancy’.
St. Stanislaus College’s selection of topics included: ‘To get respect…’; ‘Playing with fire’; and ‘What human quality do we need more and why’.
Additionally, in the second group St. Joseph’s High School won the match against The Bishops’ High School with 682 points, compared to the latter’s 677 points.
The following topics were selected by St. Joseph’s High: ‘Real wealth is never measured in money or possessions’; ‘Learning could be made more attractive by…’; and ‘Public display of affection’.
The Bishops’ High School’s selection of topics included: ‘Peace is possible’; ‘Does money make the world go around’; and ‘Does sex education belong in the school or home?’
The judges for the matches were Mrs. Lurine Meertins, Ms. Bonita Hunter and Mrs. Magda Pollard.
