CXC exam papers arrive late at Hururu Academy up the Berbice River

Regional Chairman of Region 10 (Upper Demerara /Berbice) Mr. Mortimer Mingo has, as Chairman of the Region 10 Education Committee, summoned a meeting with the entire management level team of Education Officers in Region 10, the Regional Education Officer Mr. Claude Johnson, and the Regional Executive Officer Henry Rodney, and ordered an immediate investigation into what he has described as “this unfortunate occurrence,”  whereby 25 students from the  Hururu Academy , up the Berbice River, were denied the opportunity to write the Human and Social Biology Paper 2 examination offered at other locations across Guyana by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) last Friday.
The Regional Chairman said in a release, “I am appalled at the reports of the situation at the Hururu Academy,” as he was informed by Ms. Annette Ross, a parent of one of the children attending the Academy, that the students turned up at the examination centre and were told that the examination papers had not yet arrived.
The papers arrived at the centre after 20:hrs Friday.
Mingo said, “From my immediate initial investigations, it would appear that this situation has resulted from the gross negligence and inefficiency of the officer/s responsible for the timely and safe transport of these examination papers to the school where they were to be administered.” He however acknowledged that “while these are only initial conclusions,” he has summoned a meeting with the relevant authorities.
