Mother’s Day babies at the Georgetown Hospital

A baby is an inestimable blessing and bother…A new baby is like the beginning of all things – wonder, hope and a dream of possibilities….A new baby will make love stronger, days shorter, nights longer, bankrolls smaller, homes happier, clothes shabbier, the past forgotten, and the future worth living. All thoughts expressed by one person or another over time, and one can continue – for there is no lack of words – to describe the bundle of joy that is a  baby.
That joy was doubled yesterday for several mothers across the country who gave birth on that special day – Mother’s Day.
An experienced midwife at the Maternity Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital, Mrs. Ava Griffith, said when a woman gives birth on her birthday or Mother’s Day the joy is so much more immense.
“I have seen that because many Mother’s Days I am here on duty… For many of them it is the happiest day of their lives,” she said.

And so it was.
Right at the GPHC’s Maternity Unit the Chronicle caught up with three new mothers: 28-year-old Samantha Thomas, who gave birth to a baby girl at 4:10 hours yesterday; 22-year-old Dacia Niles, who gave birth to a baby boy at 6:22 hours; and 26-year-old Bharati Ramroop, who gave birth to a baby girl at 6:23 hours.
Mrs. Samantha Thomas said to have given birth on the day that is dedicated to celebrating motherhood is an added blessing for her.
“This is my second child and yes I feel very blessed,” she said.
Adding her bit too was Mrs. Dacia Niles, who made it clear that there is no greater joy than to hold a child in your arms.
“It feels good to have a child…This little boy is my second,” she said.
Niles observed that even with the pains of delivery, the joy of having a new baby cannot be expressed.
A third time mother, Mrs. Bharati Ramroop, said simply that it feels good to be a new mother all over again.
In her simple way she explained that the moment a child is born the mother is also born.

In addition to the new mothers, all those in the Post-Natal Ward at the GPHC’s Maternity Unit were yesterday presented with baby supplies by Teddies Diapers.
