PUGILISTS, who are scheduled to appear on the third round of action on the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC)/Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS) ProAm Fights, will have their weights checked at the Waterchris Hotel from 19:00 h tonight. In the main bout of this card which will feature both amateur and professional boxers, Theophilus ‘Blue’ King will be making his professional debut against Leon ‘The Lion’ Gilkes in a four-round super-middleweight contest and already, King has predicted a second-round knockout over the seasoned Gilkes.
At a press conference which was held in the studios of the National Communications Network (NCN) Wednesday afternoon, King who had earlier predicted his knockout to this reporter reiterated same in the presence of Gilkes who threatened to out King’s lights tomorrow night.
In other bouts on the night’s card, Laurex Benn will oppose Michael De Mattos in a junior-middleweight clash, Sharon Ward and Pauline London in a female catch-weight encounter and Kwesi Jones and James Walcott in a junior-welterweight match-up on the professional side of things.
In the amateur category, where paying patrons will have the opportunity of seeing four bouts, Akeem Alexander and David Thomas get things cracking in a junior-welterweight clash followed by the female lightweight fight between Natasha Ashby and Amanda Norville.
Claymont Gibson and Nandkumar Singh will meet in a junior-welterweight bout before Romeo Norville and Trelon Munroe battle for supremacy in the heavyweight division.
