Pro-Chancellor of the University of Guyana Dr. Prem Misir and staff, extend congratulations to His Excellency President Bharrat Jagdeo on his UNEP 2010 Champions of the Earth Award.
“The Guyanese and Caribbean people stand very tall with President Jagdeo’s impressive environmental leadership, vigorously pursuing the path of low carbon economic development, toward ultimately attaining an energy sector that is not fossil fuel-dependent,” says a message from the Office of the Pro-Chancellor.
“And the climate change battle clearly mirrors the President’s ardent forestry and ecosystem infrastructure advocacy. Also, through President Jagdeo’s many efforts, Guyana today ascends to a new positive international stature that would now include the ‘Champions of the Earth’ symbolism.
“The international community continues to acknowledge President Jagdeo’s relentless efforts to make funds available to this country through his pioneering Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS), inter alia,” the message concludes.
Since taking office, President Jagdeo persists in metamorphosing the Guyana Presidency to new heights where he prominently and perpetually demonstrates the need for conspicuous and pragmatic Presidential and Governmental leadership through attitude and behavior in the face of any crisis.
For this reason, the conferral of the UNEP 2010 Champions of the Earth Award on President Jagdeo is an honor for all the people of Guyana and the Caribbean.
