THE Guyana Congregational Union (GCU) concluded its 127th assembly at the historic Mission Chapel Church, in New Amsterdam, Berbice, two Sundays ago. Under the theme ‘Capture the vision and carry out God’s mission through the power of the Holy Spirit’, it was attended by hundreds of worshippers from the various braches of the denomination.
The five-day programme commenced on April 7, with a business forum during which Pastor Orville Stuart was re-elected Chairman of the body.
Also returned to office were Reverend Paulette Hannibal, General Secretary and Brother Trevor Waterman, Treasurer, together with the previously elected executive members.
In addition to reports from the various departments, a National Men’s Conference was held at Little Rock Suites, with the guest speaker being Reverend Dr. Marlon Hestick and an outreach in Angoy’s Avenue, a depressed community on the eastern fringe also of New Amsterdam.
At the closing ceremony, on April 11, Reverend Raphael Massiah, Senior Pastor of the First Assembly of God Church, urged the congregation to capture the vision of God, telling the gathering it will preserve them and their next generation.
He challenged the professionals present to be good examples at their places of employment and reminded them that worship begins with the individual but stops at a public place.
