THE rain is finally here even though not in abundance and the same can apply to the contingent of athletes who didn’t return with an abundance of medals from the 2010 Junior CARIFTA games, but obtaining two gold medals is quite satisfying.
Jevina Straker and overseas based Jessica Stephenson, your respective competitive spirits must be applauded and please continue with your quest and take Guyana to the Olympics level. It’s one of the toughest challenges you will ever encounter and never create a mind set of fear for your competition.
To those other ambassadors who suffered mixed fortunes, you have just got to re-group with your competitive approach along with your techniques and speed. I am also very impressed to learn of the companies that supported this venture and all other persons that had a role to play. Be it locally and overseas personnel.
J. Straker in my mind is a perfect local candidate like a few others, for the business community to endorse and utilise during their marketing campaigns in terms of billboards and other advertisement.
These ambassadors are very promising and whatever is gained financially from such projects can then be placed in some special funds that can assist with offsetting travel expenses/academic studies for future regional and international meetings.
Two such events in 2010 are the upcoming Youth Olympics and The Commonwealth Games which are events that could really boost their morale.
So, keep those training and timings intact and eat and sleep with a mind set to be very competitive with everything that you have in reserve.
