To be held at NCC later this month…
– bigger and better
SIGNATURE Productions is now in the pre-production stage of ‘Nothing to Laugh About III’, a compilation of comical skits, songs, poetry that focuses on social commentary and mirrors our daily lives.
This year’s production will be held at the National Cultural Centre on the 23rd and 24th of April 2010 and then continue on to Berbice, Linden and Bartica for their customary out of town tour.
Responding to requests from some high school students, Signature has decided to involve them in the process by staging a competition between the drama groups of various high schools.
Participating students will be required to submit a humorous five minute piece written and performed by themselves. The winning selection will be featured in the main shows on the 23rd and the 24th and prizes will be up for grabs.
According to Simone Persaud Project Coordinator for Signature, the show on the 17th is not a moneymaking venture but a way in which they can work with young talent and make a contribution, however small, to the development of drama in Guyana and any cover charge will be minimal and just enough to cover the expenses for that particular show.
“We’ve had a lot of requests from teenagers about being a part of our show so this is our way of giving them a chance to express themselves in a positive way.”
Veteran actor and director Richard Naraine will be directing ‘Nothing to Laugh About III’ this year and he will also be working assiduously with the various drama groups to ensure that they are all on the top of their game come the 17th.
Having received the blessing of the Ministry of Education last Friday, Signature is going full steam ahead with preparations this week and is inviting any interested parties to contact their representatives on 609-8773, 649-0538 or 647-5468.
