Two charged with SOL $3.8M lubricant conspiracy

ASQUITH Cox, 44, of Lot 92 Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara and Xavier Westmaas, 20, of Lot 117 Regent Road, Bourda, Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday on a joint conspiracy charge. It is alleged that, on March 24, they conspired with each other and persons unknown to forge a delivery invoice to obtain 300-500 pails of lubricant valued $3.8M,  property of SOL Inc.
They both pleaded not guilty and Cox said he drives a Canter truck, on which two men requested he change the number plate to transport some merchandise and he did it for money.
Westmaas said he works as a labourer with SOL and a customer gave him a bill, which corresponded with the loading note and he was just doing his job.
Police inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, requested that the duo be made to post substantial bail and their surety was set at $75,000 each, until April 27.
