Remanded defendant admits to liking shoplifting

WAZIR Ali, 52, of Lot 149 Church and Light Streets, Georgetown, was remanded to prison when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on a simple larceny charge on Thursday. He pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on March 24, he stole six plaques valued $18,930 property of Guyana Stores Limited.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for the defendant, stating that he is a known shoplifter.
The Prosecutor said the stolen things were recovered from under a motor car where Ali threw them after he was apprehended.
The prisoner on remand admitted that he had two brushes with the law for assault and theft and answered in the affirmative when the magistrate asked him if he likes shoplifting in addition to his tailoring vocation.
Ali has to be back in Court on April 6.
