THE Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) cashier who appeared in Court earlier this month on theft charges returned to face more on Thursday. Tamayo De Mendonca, 29, of Lot 659 Congress Drive, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to two additional counts of larceny by clerk or servant before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
Particulars of the new charges said, between December 1 and 8, 2009, being employed as a clerk at GRA, he stole $258,380 which he received on behalf of his employer and, between November 6 and 30, 2009, did similarly with $440,286.
Attorney-at-law Ms. Sasha Roberts, representing the defendant, pointed out that he was granted bail on his previous appearance and requested he be allowed to lodge the same amount and the surety was set at $150,000 but the cases were transferred to another Court for April 26.
On March 4, De Mendonca was accused of having, between September 11 and 30, 2009, stolen $163,730 and, between October 15 and 30, 2009, stolen $466,160, after receiving both sums for GRA.
