Prime Minister denounces attack on home of acting GEA Head

The home of Chief Executive Officer (ag) of the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA), Mr. Mahender Sharma, came under attack at around 11:30 pm Tuesday evening, when one or more persons unknown hurled an explosive device which fortunately failed to detonate.
In a statement Wednesday evening, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, who holds responsibility for the energy sector,
said he was of the firm belief that the attack stems from the ‘excellent job being done by Mr. Sharma and the fuel marking unit of the GEA, in discovering, disrupting and prosecuting fuel-smuggling and smugglers’.
Mr. Hinds extended solidarity to Sharma, his family, relatives and friends.
Mr. Hinds said the task of protecting society from those who pursue large sums of ‘easy money’ is one which provides an essential, invaluable service which society must support.
“The Prime Minister reaffirms his Government’s unwavering support to all agencies and all citizens who, in spite of the attendant risks, stand firmly against all forms of smuggling and trafficking,” the statement said.
