Agri Ministry expresses sympathy to dead fisherman’s relatives

The Ministry of Agriculture has taken a proactive position in Guyana’s fishing society which has resulted in many developments. Through coordination with respective agencies, the Ministry has placed major emphasis on the safety and security of fishermen whose efforts contribute significantly to the growth of the economy.
On this note, the Ministry of Agriculture is expressing its heartfelt sympathy to the family and relatives of the late Vasdeo Persaud who disappeared at sea after a piracy attack on March 18 in Venezuelan waters.
It was noted that the Ministry’s Fisheries Department is working closely with law enforcement agencies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to follow up on the incident.
Senior officers from the Ministry of Agriculture will be meeting with the late Persaud’s family and the relatives of the other fishermen who were on the vessel with Persaud.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture’s Fisheries Department will continue to work with law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to reduce the incidence of hijacking and to urge fisherfolk to register with the department’s piracy fund.
