Disorderly behaviour convict chooses imprisonment, instead of fine

DAVID Williams (no address given) pleaded guilty, on Tuesday, to a disorderly behaviour charge and opted to serve 12 weeks imprisonment rather than pay a $20,000 fine. He exercised the choice before Magistrate Omeanna Hamlinton at new Amsterdam Court in Berbice.
But the offence was committed last February 8, when, during an appearance in front of Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, the prisoner, who is facing a charge of robbery under arms, used a series of expletives in the courtroom.
On that occasion, he had displayed injuries to his face and alleged that they were inflicted by a policeman he named.
However, after Williams was advised to raise the issue with the Police Complaints Authority (PCA), he became annoyed and behaved in a disorderly manner, forcing the Court to take a short adjournment..
