Baksh details expenditure on capital, current projects

In Region Two…
THE Regional Administration in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) will be spending $285M on capital and current projects, this year.
Regional Chairman Alli Baksh told the Guyana Chronicle that $110M will be spent for the rehabilitation of irrigation checks, tail walls, box culverts and timber revetments in areas such as Coffee Grove, Evergreen, Anna Regina, Bush Lot, Affiance, Sparta, Henrietta and Riverstown.
He said the expenditure is to improve agricultural yields, drainage and irrigation (D&I) facilities and access to farm lands.
Mr. Baksh said, under Public Works, $40M will be expended to upgrade roads at Charity, Suddie, Capoey, La Union and New Road, also on Essequibo Coast, to facilitate better access.
According to him, the sum of $25M has been earmarked for the construction of a new school building at Martindale and an annex to Akawini Primary School, both in Pomeroon, to allow for improved accommodation and educational facilities for students and teachers.
Baksh said $23.5M will go towards building a vision centre at Suddie Hospital, rewiring the hospital building and do rehabilitation work on the main section.
He said some of the money will be to rehabilitate Oscar Joseph District Hospital at Charity and a health post at Dredge Creek in Upper Pomeroon River.
Baksh said a further sum of $10M will be to purchase furniture and equipment for schools and $11M to construct bridges at Suddie Hospital and Anna Regina Community Centre Ground.
Another $8M is for another bridge at Johanna Cecelia Secondary School, on Essequibo Coast, too.
