ALL-ROUNDER Paul Wintz and off-spinner Toralph Scipio powered Canal Number Two to an 183-run victory over Zeeburg and a place in the semi-finals of the West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA)-organised New Line Aqua Farm (NLAF)-sponsored 40 overs-a-side competition on Sunday. Winning the toss and opting to bat first on their home ground, Canal Number Two made a massive 356-6 from their 40 overs, with Wintz hitting an attractive 72 off 25 balls, decorated with six sixes and five fours. He received support from national middle order batsman Gajanand Singh 63 (9×4, 2×6).
The pugnacious Andrew Lyght Jr made 57 off 15 deliveries with seven maximums and two fours while Chabiraj Ramcharran was the fourth batsman for the victors to record a half-century in the match when he chalked up 52 off 27 deliveries with five fours and four sixes.
Former Guyana Under-17 batsman Dayanand Roopnarine chipped in with 39 which was scored off 12 deliveries and included five sixes, as Canal Number Two struck a total of 31 fours and 25 maximums in their innings.
In reply, Zeeburg were bowled out for 173 in 36.2 overs with M. Doodnarine top-scoring with 67 made off 48 deliveries and decorated with 10 fours and two sixes, while T. Mohamed offered support with 25 that included four fours.
No other batsman managed to get into double figures, as Scipio grabbed 3-22 while Wintz returned to claim 2-34, as Canal Number Two recorded a 183-run victory and at the same time, booked their place in the semis which will be played shortly.
