Memorex upset
Wolf Warriors by six runs
MEMOREX created a major upset in the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) sponsored Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS)/Guyana Softball League (GSL) organized nationwide 10/10 softball competition, when they defeated tournament favorites Wolf Warriors by six runs yesterday.

Playing in the third of four quarterfinals at the Everest Cricket Club (ECC) ground, Memorex batted first and scored 88-3 from their 10 overs, with David Looknauth and Harold Singh leading the batting with 56 and 20 respectively.
When Wolf Warriors who is one of the country’s best softball teams took strike at the wicket, they were limited to 82-9 from their 10 overs, with Amit Jairam’s 21 being the principal score against the bowling of Alim Khan who took 3-20 for Memorex.
In the first match of the day, Crabwood Creek were the first team to book a place in the final four, when they defeated Port Mourant All Stars by six wickets in their matchup.
Batting first, Port Mourant All Stars were held to 90-3 from their 10 overs, with Pundra Debidyal and Chandrika Arjoon contributing an unbeaten 38 and 28 respectively, but Crabwood Creek made light work of their target, as they reached 92-4 from eight overs, thanks to the batting of Lukhan Jitlall and Joshua Garnett who made 30 and 26 respectively.
In the second quarterfinal, Cotton Field maintained their fine run, when they defeated El Dorado Sports Club by 21 runs.
Asked to take first strike, Cotton Field were bowled out for 88 from 9.2 overs, of which Daniel Bolo made 17 against the bowling of Lawrence Ramdass (4-19) and Ramnarine Raghubir and Navin Persaud who took 2-17 each.
In reply, El Dorado sports Club were restricted to 67-8 from their 10 overs, with Doodnauth Singh top scoring with 17, while Marvin Pierson took 2-17 for Cotton Field.
In the final quarterfinal match of the day, Trophy Stall XI remained the lone favorite following Wolf Warriors’ demise, when they defeated Leguan Superstars by 17 runs in their encounter.
Batting first, Trophy Stall XI were restricted to 93-7 from their 10 overs, with Jagdesh Deosarran and Davendra Ramnauth leading the way with 29 and 21 respectively, before Ramnauth returned to scalp 2-2, as Leguan Superstars were held to 76-4 in reply, of which Muneshwar Jathan made 31.
The semi-finals and final of the competition which is being sponsored to the tune of G$5m, of which a whopping G$1m and a trophy will go to the victorious team, commences at 1200h at the same venue today.
In the first semifinal, Cotton Field will oppose Crabwood Creek, while Trophy Stall and Memorex will renew a rivalry in the second semifinal which bowls off at 1400h, prior to the final which commences at 1700h, there will be a female exhibition matchup involving the GT&T Fibre Optics and a combined Number 68 side.
