TWO employees of Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD) have been charged with a burglary committed on their employer.
Linden Bishop, 22, of Lot 18 Melanie North, East Coast Demerara and Japheth Case, 18, of Lot 910 Rosemary Lane, South Cummingsburg, Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday and both pleaded not guilty.
They denied that, between March 4 and 13, they broke and entered the T&HD Central Store stole booty valued $3.3M.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Adrian Thompson, for the defendants, requested reasonable bail for them and surety was set at $150,000 each, until April 28.
The lawyer said the men went to work on Monday and were informed that a computer was missing, before being taken to a Police station and later released without having to lodge any security.
Thompson said an audit done revealed that a number of items were missing from the storage place and blame shifted on the duo.
Defence Counsel expressed surprise that guards did not see when the things were being removed and Police searching recovered nothing.
Thompson said he believed the loss occurred over a long period and Bishop and Case are now being blamed.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, whose objection to pre-trial freedom for the defendants was overruled, claimed an eyewitness saw the two men removing the stolen things.
