Go-Invest discusses Pomeroon coconut industry

A TEAM from Go- Invest, headed by the Director, Mr. Geoffrey Da Silva met with scores of farmers and several entrepreneurs at Charity Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) office Monday morning to discuss new investments in the coconut industry.

Da Silva told the gathering that Government is looking to develop the industry through the Private Sector and Go-Invest will give all the support to entrepreneurs for the purpose of marketing especially the by-products of coconuts.
He said Go-Invest works with every Administrative Region to promote and establish investment projects and expand businesses.
Chairman of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Alli Baksh said the industry in Pomeroon has a bright future and coconut farmers are currently enjoying good prices for dry and water nuts, because an entrepreneur is buying and shipping them to the United States.
The entrepreneur, Mr. Shook Shiv Mangal, who has already purchased thousands of coconuts from Pomeroon, has assured farmers that he has reliable markets in the U.S. and will depend on them for supplies.
Baksh  also announced that, through Go-Invest, a foreign company has purchased a large coconut estate in Pomeroon and is expected to establish a factory for producing several coconut based products.
After the meeting Da Silva and his group, who included Go-Invest officer, Mr. Dhanpaul Dhanraj; Executive Director, Forest Products Development and Marketing Council, Mr. Derrick Cummings and Director of New Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC), Mrs. Vilma Da Silva visited the Alfro Alphonso five-storey supermarket under construction, Pomeroon Small Cottage Women Factory, Original Juice Centre and Several rice factories
