Appearing in two Courts…
– on several charges
POLICE have slapped a man with several charges following investigations into the dramatic kidnap and rescue in the city last weekend.
Renaldo Marques, 24, of Lot 49 Louisa Row, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, was remanded to prison when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson and Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton yesterday, charged with abduction for ransom, giving false information to the Police and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The indictable abduction charge, to which the accused was not required to plead, said, on March 12, he abducted Andre Barnes with intent to hold him for ransom.
Marques pleaded not guilty to the other charge, which alleged that, the same day, he gave false information to a Police corporal so that the latter would not charge him for the offence of abduction.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, who successfully objected to bail for the prisoner, requested a date for report after legal advice is sought from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Consequently, April 19 was set for Marques to return to that Court.
Marques, in front of Magistrate Octave-Hamilton, pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawful possession of a gun and ammunition.
Particulars of those offences said, on March 12, too, he had one 9mm pistol and 10 live rounds while not being the holder of licences for them.
He was also refused bail on those charges and is to be back in the latter Court on June 28.
