Auditions will be open to plus size females up to size 14, in an exciting new twist to Guyana Model Search this year.
Designer Sonia Noel said in a recent release that the plus size industry is gaining momentum, especially with women like the beautiful Queen Latifah and Mo’ Nique. One outstanding local example is Sharon Quin, a plus sized model. She heated up the runway at the inaugural Guyana Fashion Weekend, gaining many fans who saw her as the original runway diva.
The designer said that one of the objectives of the venture is to highlight that fashion is for all body types and sizes, and every one can be seen as sexy and sophisticated.
Auditions will be held on March 20 and 21 at the Tower Hotel on High Street, for designers/stylists and male and female models. All models need to walk with a full length and half length picture and female models are required to walk with heels.
The committee has contact with two plus size agencies in New York and Trinidad and Tobago, and they are very interested in scouting for local talent.
The six week TV show will be aired on HJTV and NCN. Last year’s winners, Jermaine Victor and Yolanda Kerr, just completed an exiting photo shoot for the next cover of APSARA Magazine, and are getting ready to rip the runway at the Trinidad and Tobago fashion weekend in May.
