Jewel’s diatribe bewilders me

HAVING read Mark Jewel’s diatribe in Thursday, March 04, 2010 edition of the Kaieteur News, I was indeed left in a state of bewilderment. From his harsh tone it is pellucid that he admonishes anyone whose writing is favourable to the government. His position is no different from that of some independent writers and commentators who front for the Opposition. It is therefore not a coincidence that he praised the Kaieteur News and the Stabroek News whilst disparaging the characters of Dr. Randy Persaud and Dr. Prem Misir. It is no secret that these gentlemen’s writings are favourable to the administration. In addition, they respond timely and informatively to the many inaccuracies peddled by the same two newspapers mentioned.

Such responses will not find favour with the likes of Jewel and his cohorts. It is not surprising that he spared the Opposition-oriented columnist, Freddie Kissoon, from his vile accusations of contempt and arrogance which he directed towards the two Doctors. How could Jewel blatantly ignore the character assassination, falsehoods and government bashing that Kissoon spews daily in his endeavour to destroy the credibility of anyone who supports the government?

The credibility of Kissoon is questionable for reasons of self-confessed book theft and having to apologise frequently for misinforming the public. How could this be spared from Jewel’s wrath? Jewel should cease being the proverbial ostrich and understand that if an Opposition Party is to gain power, he and Kissoon would transform themselves to pander to their masters who currently pull their strings.

Further, I would enquire from Jewel what principles compel the independent dailies to print the vile and sometimes seditious rants by Kissoon and others. It should be noted that Kissoon not only uses his columns to vilify the administration and its officials but pens long letters to the newspapers. The question is who is really craving attention? I will remain bewildered until answers are forthcoming.
