THE Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the Guyana Football Referees Council (GFRC) combined their efforts and raised US$2 550 which will be donated to the Football Federation of Haiti.
Addressing members of the media yesterday at the GFF Headquarters, the federation’s vice-president Franklyn Wilson informed that the GFF staged a Haiti Football Federation double-header benefit event at the GCC ground which realised G$248 000 from gate receipts and a further G$150 000 from donation boxes and the drinks bars, bringing the total amount raised to Guy$398 000, but after expenses for the floodlights among others were deducted the total amounted to G$227 541.
He said the GFF generously donated G$200 000 and the GFRC US$550.
Wilson said the sum of US$2 550 would be handed over to the Haiti Football Federation over the weekend at the Ordinary Congress of the CFU in Trinidad.
The GFF vice-president used the opportunity to thank the officials, players and the many football fans who supported the venture.
The Haiti Football Federation was destroyed last month when a 0.7 magnitude earthquake ravished the city of Port-au-Prince.
At the time the quake struck, executives of the Federation were meeting and it has been reported that 30 of its members perished, with only the president John Bart surviving.
