THE Guyana Table Tennis Association/National Sports Commission in an effort to promote table tennis countrywide will be coordinating a knock-out table tennis tournament involving mini-cadet, cadet, and junior and youth players on Saturday and Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The tournament which will commence at 16:00 h on Saturday and 10:00 h on Sunday is being staged in memory of Oscar Shew who passed away in February 1999 and in fitting tribute his son Manniram Persaud, who is a sports enthusiast, decided to hold a table tennis tournament. Shew was also a charter member of the South Georgetown Lions Club.
The divisions to be contested are: 10-years-and-under boys and girls – mini cadet, 13 years-and-under boys and girls – pre-cadet, 15 years-and-under boys and girls- cadet, 18 years-and-under boys and girls – juniors, 21 years-and-under open – youth.
A player must be of a stipulated age on or before December 31, 2010.

The deadline for registration is tomorrow at 16:30 h at the Sports Hall.
PRIZES
Prizes in the form of trophies and medals will be given to the top three players in each category. According to the rules of the competition, the player who wins the first three games will be declared the winner; The tournament will be played using current ITTF rules – 11-point game; best of five games; two-point alternate serve;
Players are required to be at the playing venue at least 30 minutes in advance of matches; NSC/GTTA will arrange knock up time for players leading up to the tournament. Each player will be notified of the fixtures and dates of matches.
The fixtures and draws will be done tomorrow. Late entries will not be accepted. An entrance fee will be charged to each player entering the tournament and players must at least reach the semifinals in their category to be eligible for the next category.
