In Region Two…
MEMBER of the Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Mr. Cornel Damon, has called for the acceleration of the anti-truancy campaign. Speaking at the February statutory meeting, he said many youths, especially at Charity, Westbury, Dartmouth, Jibb Housing Scheme and Paradise, all on  Essequibo Coast, can be seen roaming the streets and the public road daily.
He said they are involved in crimes such as theft and using illicit drugs.
The Councillor said school welfare officers attached to the Department of Education should be accompanied by Police when looking for truants.
