CARLOS Braithwaite, 29, of Lot 43 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was yesterday fined $20,000 with the alternative of nine months imprisonment, on conviction for simple larceny.
Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, before whom he pleaded guilty to the February 10 offence, imposed the monetary penalty on Braithwaite after he admitted stealing a kitchen sink valued $50,000 in booty with a total value of $55,000, property of Clive Sampson.
The virtual complainant said he saw the thief throwing the household items over his fence and, when he confronted him, he attempted to run away.
But Sampson said he brandished his gun and warned the defendant not to move.
Prior to the imposition of the fine, Braithwaite broke down in tears and threw himself on the floor of the courtroom, begging Sampson to give him a chance.
The convict said he was sure the virtual complainant gives away more than what was stolen from him.
