Mormons donate crutches to Ptolemy Reid Rehab Centre

The Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre on Carmichael Street in the city was last week the beneficiary of a much appreciated donation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days.
The gift, comprising crutches and other walking aids, is all part of the humanitarian effort in Guyana by the church whose members are popularly referred to as ‘Mormons’.
Making the presentation to Ms Janice Simmons, officer-in-charge of the day to day administration of the centre, was the church’s Public Affairs Director, Georgetown District, Mr. Leslie Sobers, who is also an attorney.
Also present was Humanitarian Missionary of the church, Elder Whitehead.
Several members of the church, according to reports, are currently in Haiti, following the January 12 earthquake which devastated the impoverished island, giving of their service.
In this Sonell Nelson photo, Mr. Sobers who uses one of the crutches as a result of injuries he sustained in an accident recently in Lethem, hands over one of the donations to Ms Simmons, as some staffers and inmates of the institution look on.
