Georgetown Rotaract and Habitat for Humanity get together

Collaborations between the Rotaract Club of Georgetown and Habitat for Humanity will continue following a recent undertaking by the two on one of the latter’s projects. Mr. Clifton Ridley, Administrative Assistant with Habitat for Humanity, said the two groups were involved in construction work for one of Habitat’s home partners in Turkeyen.
“The partnership will continue,” Ridley said.
He explained that Habitat for Humanity approached Rotaract seeking volunteers in 2007. However, Ridley said this fell through and it was not until last Sunday that a commitment was given by the Rotaract Club.
The Administrative Assistant also lauded the commitment of the Rotaract Club towards a worthy cause.
The Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women between the ages of 18 and 30. Rotaract clubs are either community or university based.
Ridley said this makes them true “Partners in service” and key members of the family of Rotary.
The purpose of Rotaract is to provide an opportunity for young men and women to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations among all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.
Considering the Rotaract’s purpose, Ridley said Habitat for Humanity and the Rotaract club have similar interests.
“The club does voluntary work, same as we do, and also seeks to engage youths in developing the spirit of volunteerism,” Ridley said.
He reiterated that the collaborations between the two entities will continue as they seek to address quality of life improvement.
