Investment in youths paying off for RHTYSC

Over the last five years, the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) has concentrated a lot on youth development as the key to its cricket development, investing millions of dollars in their youths to make sure that all of its young cricketers not only develop their skills on the cricket field but also become positive role models to their peers by using the themes of self-discipline, hard work, honesty and commitment.

The years of investment have started to produce positive results with the RHTYSC winning all junior cricket tournaments organised by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) for last year, starting with the Farfan and Mendes Under-15 team and culminating with the Gizmos and Gadgets Under-23.

The F&M Under-15s won the Tenelec Under-15 title, the Bakewell Under-17 won the Leslie Amsterdam Memorial, and the DDL/Pepsi Under-19 team were crowned Champions of the Spready’s Under-19 Cup while the Gizmos & Gadgets Under-23 won the Peter Lewis Associated Construction Services Under-23 titles.

In addition, their Metro Female team won for the club, the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) national female title, while the seniors won the 2009 Busta Champion of Champions, ABS 40-overs-a side and the Berbice zone of the Neal & Massy title while finishing as runners-up in both the Berbice Tenelec Inc. and GCB national Neal and Massy tournaments respectively.

The icing on the cake for RHTYSC came when they were named the GCB 2009 Club-of-the-Year.

“The management and members of the RHTYSC are very proud of our status as the number one cricket club in Guyana especially as it was the result of sheer hard work, visionary leadership, forward planning and millions of dollars worth of investment into the development of our young cricketers like Eon Hooper, Terrence Madramootoo, Dominic Rickey, Shemaine Campbell, Shawn Perreira, Loyden Lewis and Troy Mathieson.

The importance of youth in our successes cannot be overestimated as we strongly believe that they are our future, along with the established players like the Crandon brothers Esaun and Royston Crandon, Assad Fudadin and Delbert Hicks.

It is our aim to remain the best in the future and with a present membership of 153 members, with the oldest player being 30 years of age, and 90% of them well below the age of 18 years, such can be achieved.

RHTYSC wishes to share its successes on the cricket field with all our official sponsors who have invested heavily into our cricket section, for without their support, our successes would not have been possible and we owe it all to them as they are simply the foundations to all our successes.

To the Management of Bakewell, Farfan & Mendes, DDL/Pepsi, Metro Office and Computer Supplies and Gizmos & Gadgets we expressed our profound gratitude and share our successes with you. It is our hope that the relationship we share would grow from strength to strength in the future. Special mention must also be made of the Windies Sports Bar and Courts (Guy) Inc. for their investment in the past.

Finally we would like to express gratitude to all our supporters and also to the media especially the Kaieteur News, Guyana Chronicle, Guyana Times, Stabroek News, NCN, DTV-8, LRTVS CH 10 and VCT 28 for the coverage of our numerous activities.
