Funeral of Phyllis Carter on Friday

THE funeral of Mrs. Phyllis Carter, widow of the late Guyanese poet laureate Martin Carter, will take place here on Friday.
One of her sons, Mr. Howard Carter, who had also migrated but returned, told the Guyana Chronicle yesterday that his mother’s remains came back from Trinidad Monday night.
He said a thanksgiving service will be conducted at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, Robb and New Garden Streets, Georgetown, beginning at 14:30 h and, subsequently, her body will be taken to Hague Roman Catholic Cemetery, West Coast Demerara, for last rites and burial.

Mrs. Carter fell ill at home on January 18 and was, initially, admitted to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital before being transferred to Mount Hope Medical Complex, Trinidad, where she died last Thursday.

She also leaves to mourn other children, Dr. Keith Carter, Sonia Dolphin, Michelle Saywack, Gregg Vansertima, Allison Bulkan, several grandchildren, relatives and friends.

Management and staff of Guyana National Newspapers Ltd (GNNL) join in extending profound sympathy to the bereaved relatives of Mrs. Carter, who was, at the time of her death, a member of the Committee of Management of Castellani Art Gallery and a member of the Board of Directors of the Cheshire Home, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.
