Ex-Immigration Officer on forgery charge

A FORMER Corporal in the Police Immigration Department has been charged with forgery.

Keon Luther, 23, of Lot 3472 Jacksonville, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday and pleaded not guilty.

Particulars of the offence alleged that, on May 21, 2008, with intent to defraud, he put a forged immigration entry stamp in the Guyana passport of Edward Drakes, knowing it to be false.

The ex-cop claimed he never had any trouble with the law and requested reasonable bail and, after no objection from the Prosecution, he was ordered to lodge $70,000 surety, until March 5.
