Former common law partner charged with burglary

TREVOR Fredericks, 32, of Lot 52 ‘E’ Field, North Sophia, Georgetown, was put on $70,000 bail yesterday, after he pleaded not guilty, before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, to break and enter and larceny.

Particulars of the offence said, between January 12 and 13, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Naptula Baptiste and stole booty, including jewellery, valued a total $165,000.

Attorney-at-law Mr. Paul Fung-a-Fat, for the defendant, said the latter and the virtual complainant had shared a common law relationship for seven years but she made the allegation because she has become dissatisfied with Fredericks.

The lawyer said the defendant had a key for the house but has handed it over to the Police.

Defence Counsel argued that there should not have been any charge because there was no sign of forced entry into the building.

Baptiste told the Court that she had secured her home, gone to spend the night at her mother’s but, on returning the next morning, saw a window open and, later, discovered her belongings missing.

After a discussion at the Bench, the case was transferred to another Court, for February 9.
