KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) – Jamaica’s selectors dropped out-of-form opening batsman Xavier Marshall Tuesday and replaced him with Danza Hyatt for their third-round WICB Regional first class match against Guyana this weekend in Barbados.
The 23-year-old Marshall was among the most dominant batsmen in the trials last month but has shown dismal form in the series so far while Jamaica won their first two games handsomely against the Windward Islands and the Leeward Islands.
Marshall, who has played seven Tests and 24 One-Day Internationals for West Indies, cracked two centuries in the last two trial matches last month, but has had scores of 2, 10, 13, and 0 in the first two rounds.
Hyatt travelled Tuesday and has joined the squad in Barbados for tomorrow’s start of the WICB Regional third-round match against Guyana at Foursquare Park in the eastern parish of St Philip.
The Jamaicans have made a solid start to the title-defence with maximum points from the opening matches to lead with 24 points, nine ahead of Barbados (15) with Combined Campuses & Colleges lying third on 12 points.
In the other third-round games in Barbados starting Friday, Barbados play Trinidad and Tobago and CCC tackle the Windward Islands.
Jamaica squad – Tamar Lambert (captain), Brenton Parchment, Donovan Pagon, Danza Hyatt, Wavell Hinds, Brendan Nash, David Bernard, Carlton Baugh, Nikita Miller, Odean Brown, Andrew Richardson, Shawn Findlay, Daren Powell.
